Understandable, and a balancing act, to be sure. I know I don’t really do blogs of any kind, and usually choose to minimize emails. I’d rather check the source, as in the Purism home page, for news/updates, and here.
As an aside, since you mentioned L14 shipping parity, which sounds like a goal to be reaching perhaps 3-4 months, shipping parity for the L5 seems to be more and more a hot topic on other tech/linux forums lately, seems to be the tipping point for folks to want to order, as well as thinking that by then the software will be, shall we say, more mature and functional than now? 2022 may be a real good year for L5 orders based on comments I’m seeing.
At this point, I think those who have pre-ordered pretty much know what they are getting into, and would appreciate the extra emails. I’ve been checking the blog, and I’ve signed up for the newsletter (did I miss the one for this month??), but the silence is grating.
I knew as soon as it was announced that shipping would begin in February that Chinese New Year was going to get in the way. It always gets in the way for most anything coming from Asia (not just China). I was hoping that things were lined up with that in mind prior to the announcement. At this point, I’m just going to expect March and be happy if it shows up in February, especially when I’m getting more battery!
That being said, I’ve been trying to remain patient and understanding, but we are 4 months shy of a full year since the pre-order was started. Communication at this point goes a long way.
Off topic but… There have been more L5 update emails? I’m assuming it’s only been for the kickstarters and those who ordered prior to 2019. I have yet to see 1 email about my L5 pre-order since I actually pre-ordered in 2019. I’m not complaining about the wait since others have waited far longer, but again… communication?
As the L14 will still take some time to be shippped … are there any refurbished L15 v4 in the queue in the meantime?
Is there a certain “usual” or “planned” rate of returned and refurbished L15 hardware? Like with guarantee redeems or such?
Sometimes refurbs show up but it’s unpredictable as they come from customers who bought, received and then returned their laptop within the return window, usually. When they do show up we update quantities in our shop so they show up on there for sale. Looking at https://shop.puri.sm it appears we have some refurbished Librem 13s and 15s available.
Oops, I wrote a reply about the L5, then thought you were asking about the L14 for some reason and deleted it, then realized you were asking about the L5. Time for more coffee.
To answer your question, we have traditionally sent a couple email updates per year, as news crosses a threshold to be worth sending out to everyone. If you ordered in 2019 you should have gotten a number of emails from us. For instance I think the most recent one to cross the threshold was the Evergreen Shipping news from November.
Ahh, yes, you are right, my bad. I received two emails in 2020. One that links to the blog article about mold updates 9/10/20, and one linking to the dogwood blog post 6/24/20. Outside that, the last email I received was in 11/14/2019 about the batch choice.
Thanks!
I just checked, but if there were, then they are at least not reflected in the shop.
Is it possible to be placed on a list for to be notified, if a L15 v4 shows up?
Hi, just to be clear, i still expect that the Mail regarding shipping will arrive IN february, so i can cancel my order IN February and get my money back IN February. is that correct?
This was the mail from your support regarding this question :
Thank you for your Mail.
So, i will get a email in February "Before shipping you will be contacted by email to verify the shipping
address" is that the moment that i cand cancel my order and get my Refund?
Interesting, you support is already relativizing the date of the shipment E-Mail.
I aksed if it is still accurate that i will get my shipment Mail in February (to cancel my order and get finally my refund…) and thats the Answer :
“I’m afraid no, you can ask for refund when we reach your order in the shipping queue and contact you to inform you that your order is ready.”
Great, so now i cant even be sure if i get my money back in February… and purism cant or wont tell me when i can count witht that… i realy should never have ordered anything from you
This thread is simply not an appropriate forum for you to bring your complaint to my attention.
Lately each forum thread connected to a blog post has tended to go off topic as people see that employees like myself are paying attention to the thread, therefore they use the opportunity to air a grievance, or ask an off-topic question. I’m simply trying to keep these news post threads on-topic so we can continue to have them. The alternative is to make a post and then immediately lock the thread (preventing any on-topic discussion on the topic) and I’m trying to avoid that.
Understood, take my post as information for all the other users, that even if you say shipping might start in February, that it does not mean shipping will start for everyone in February…
It is not confidence building to keep seeing the delivery date get pushed back. It makes me feel that the company has no money and is using new orders to pay for 3-4 month-old orders.
It has nothing to do with money, all the Librem 14s are paid for. It has to do with the various issues we have already published, combined with the overall challenges in the supply chain we have been fighting through this whole year.
I’m sorry that you did not review the return policy when you placed your pre-order. As it says here:
If you want to draw funds from any product that you: crowdfund, back, pre-order, early purchase, pre-purchase: when your pre-order is reached in the shipping queue you can decide whether to have it shipped or opt for some other option.
Again, this is not the place to discuss personal customer support complaints. It’s also not the place to re-hash conspiracy theories about our finances.
I’m asking you, please, to keep the thread on topic.
