Phosh 0.39.0 is out!

Kind of agreed, but I have confidence it will be coming.

Meanwhile, I recall another forum user got 0.36 set up on Byzantium a while back:

I wouldn’t exactly recommend trying this without blessings from some Purism devs or at least an update from this user to see how it’s working out for them or if they ran into any problems.
I’m not sure what would happen now if this script were run.

Either way, the addition of folders in the App Menu is huge and I am really excited for this version.

First thing I did: sudo apt update … nothing …

I thought Purism was back-porting it when I saw this thread. I know about the release for 50h (and also that 0.39 had a delay to finish bigger things), but as long as I cannot install it without doing more than updating, I do not care much about.

Probably due to unmet dependencies:

purism@pureos:~$ sudo apt list phosh-core --installed
[sudo] password for purism:
phosh-core/now 24 arm64 [installed,upgradable to: 37]

Attempting to upgrade the package prints this output:

purism@pureos:~$ sudo apt upgrade phosh-core

@spacemanspiffy I’m currently not updating these as backporting to Byzantium ate too much of my free time (as one usually also wants newer mobile settings (to arrange favorites, enable quick toggles, etc) which then requires newer libadwaita, which requires newer gtk, …) , sorry for not having better news.

Oh I definitely understand.

Do you happen to know what version would try to get installed if I were to run l5-fetch-next on my Byzantium phone? Looks like 0.37?

Any idea when we can move to crimson then?

We’re waiting largely on me, so developers may not have the resources available to provide an accurate estimate. I still need to solidify cashflow with leadership and finance, then use this information to improve our project management forecast (with assistance from developers) in order to determine delivery cadence. In the meantime, there are crowdfunding opportunities (i.e. interest from this forum to donate toward expedited development), for which we are ironing out implementation details.

There is a video of Phosh’s custom quick settings in this post:

The branch for byzantium is unmaintained and untested. I’d not recommend to use it atm.

So in fact there is no news for the major group of Byzantium users.

It would be great if there will be no fee for overhead on these crowdfunding opportunities, and that all the donations would go without any reduction to the development.

I fully suspended my PureOS/Purism work end of 2023 so I’d rather not comment from the side line as this just puts people under pressure that are trying to improve the situation.

Without providing any more detail than you wish to disclose, would you continue on PureOS/Purism work if your schedule/adequate funding from a Purism-led fundraiser allowed?

While i love L5, i dont feel the same in Phosh.

When i use Phosh, i feel the same unhappiness as when i use Android.
Even a Donkey knows that Phosh is a copy of Android_UI-UX atm.

I am not sure since which version of Phosh i started to dislike, as i Liked OK Phosh before.

I am just being honest…

I just want to be happy again as i went with Nokia N9 and N900, when i loved both hardware and software. Why Phosh do not want to copy to Hildon as least? Why why?? Why Android?
As far i know Purism loved Hildon and wanted for L5. What is going on Guido…you love Android? you want Android for Librem 5?

Oh i love it.

And no its not like Android or Ios its different.

It feels slow on Librem5 but i think this is about the lag of GT4 Support and not Optimized Log Messages and Scheduling.

I never used Hildon but it looks like a PDA Options interface. Phosh have the option to hide access to non authorized Humans, and still have some Options and not secure Info about the Device available.

You should not be so harsh, because this protects you and your privacy. Think about Spies and Bullies try to access your Phone and Data - and only Phosh protect your privacy.

If you lose your Phone and someone find it and Phosh give access to your Message for someone to bring it back. Or you have a medical Accident and it provides some important Info too. Or when you are on travel or need to show some Barcode instead of an App to access your Phone and share the info.

Without a PIN or 3erd Party BLE Gadgets to access your phone… # I love what Guido have done so far and appreciate it.

An Android copy is KDE Plasma Mobile while Phosh is not. Wanna have a proof?

Android

Plasma Mobile

Phosh

A friend (Android user) even said “Phosh looks so bad, has not even similar functionalities to Android - why overview on app grid and where are the 3 navigation buttons?” etc.

I advise you NOT to use Hildon because you may fall in Love for sure…

It was very exciting for me to make a volte call on 4G in Hildon, the sound of the call was on another level on the Painphone, which i had never heard before and i even took the PP out of my ear to see it head on, i was surprised. It nice too see Hildon on daedalus version.
