Since Purism can’t ship replacement batteries outside the USA (except when ordered together with a new device using the same battery, which is not possible for e.g. a Librem 13 battery since they are not making the Librem 13 any more) I looked for other vendors who might be able to provide compatible batteries.
The original battery in my Librem 13 v2 had a “Product ID: TU131-TS63-74” printed on it so I searched for that text online. There seem to be two different batteries with the same part number - a smaller one with 24 Wh capacity and a larger one with 45 Wh capacity. The original battery has “Capacity 45 Wh, 7.4V” printed on it so I made sure to order that one.
My order arrived last week and I installed the battery yesterday. So far everything seems to be working fine. So I would suggest a similar approach to anyone else outside the USA who is looking for a new battery. If you have something other than a Librem 13 v2, make sure to open the case and look at the part numbers printed on your battery first so you can order the right one.
I had the same issue with 13v4 and Librem 5, ordered batteries via lindaparts from China, everything is working.
Since Purism batteries are sourced from China anyways I suggest too to try these, as long as the store you’re buying from isn’t shady it should be ok. Its a shame though that Purism cant ship only batteries as themselves, in their current state even small purchases may be helpful.
Can you share a link to the exact battery you bought for the Librem 5? I’ve been web searching for a while, but cannot seem to find any in stock. After the news that a new battery from Purism comes with a $250 price tag, I’m in the market for a knockoff
Thanks a lot! After some problems, I was able to buy 2 batteries. Just hoping this isn’t a scam like so many “original batteries” that are sold out there
The problem? It took me several hours to successfully order. Apparently, you cannot combine items from several sellers in a single order. You’ll get a dreaded “Order unsuccessful. Your internet might be broken.” message. So naturally I thought I had been shadow banned, since I’m always on a VPN and do not use Gmail for email and have Firefox’ Resist FingerPrinting and other privacy settings cranked up. But it turned out, if you split your orders and order only from one seller at a time, the error disappears. Dumb
So I had an issue with this for this most recent May sale. As many have pointed out, customer service was useless. Here is what worked for me just now.
I had a big order with lots of random items. I had to break the order down into 3 seperate orders.
1 order for global sellers.
1 order for “free shipping” items
1 order for items that are 1.99 shipping or free over 10$ aka “choice”
Here is the kicker, I think if you have an item that is choice AND already over $10 it has free shipping and this is what breaks the system. Maybe they just released some random block they put on me but I was able to order almost all the items I had in my cart with this way with the exception of the items that went off sale. Still had many sale items. Good luck!
