Troubles with L14 consistently recognizing a second external (USB-C) display

As you may know, Librem 14 is capable of handling 2 external displays: one via HDMI, another via USB Type-C Video Out.

Though I have been able to use the latter, it’s been quite inconsistent: reboot, turn display off and on again, and it won’t be re-recognized by L14: the display says it sees no signal. What often helps is unplugging the USB-C cable out and plugging it back in, and even this does not give consistent luck.

Any knowledge/ideas of how to get it consistently recognize the USB-C display?

Try a different USB-C cable and/or use a different orientation.

It’s hard to see how that could be the cause. The cable works just fine when the monitor is recognized.

I just experienced this again: the 2nd monitor was connected but turned off, and turning it on did not make L14 recognize it. But as soon as I unplugged the USB-C cable and plugged it back, it worked.

Guess the solution would be found by digging what happens in L14 when USB-C is plugged, and making it happen as well when the monitor is turned on.
