I never took “52” as a real number anyway. I took it as “indefinite” or “too uncertain to make a meaningful forecast”.
I think the change to specifying “20 weeks” is a fairly recent change (last week or two). I believe that Kyle has left the building, so don’t expect further shipping updates from him. It would seem that the current messaging is that all backorders will be fulfilled by June 30, 2023.
We are working to contact all persons that have backorders of Librem 5 until the end of June. And reach shipping parity around that time.
We have cleared 2017, 2018, 2019 and working on pre-orders from mid 2020, and ramping up contacts and shipping like we said we would in the beginning of the year.
We also had in the past folks that never replied when we reached out to them for them to confirm their shipping addresses, for different possible reasons.
We are also working to reach again to folks that never answered. So all together, busier times around here.
All this to say, with the current stock we have and the shipping rates that we have, it was ok to reduce the lead time estimate that we have for new orders from 52 to 20 weeks.
Maybe they got the Money already and just did not update the Response cause they already got the benefit. Humans complain about some ugly felt treatment more and act immediately, if the playing ball is not on their side. When they already got the fish and have to spent just another little time to share the message… they lost this engagement to communicate this Information. Its not an evil intention, just evolutionary biased and about spending energy.
Just wait half a year or one year and if they still complain… they still do not got it.
On Topic:
I do not get a Shipping Mail but since i got some large response window in the first case, i think my phone will be shipped in the next 10 to 14 Days. Can’t wait, but i have to!
Hi, i have ordered my librem5 9th Feb 2021. I understand the challenges that purism have faced and in the face of all the negative posts i have always known that they will fulfil their promise of delivering a freedom phone. I think the negative nancys have no business invading this positive thread. And i am happy to be here in this forum to absorb the wisdom of the stalwarts who have the same faith as i do. You know who you are, and when i get my phone they will know a lot less about me! Kudos Purism.
I might add that my account only shows 6hours reading time (on PC logged in) but the time i spent reading as a guest on my android runs to 100s of hours easily as i have been here every night before i sleep since i ordered my phone!
You should note that the comments I linked in were mostly from April and most had been waiting on a refund for a long time.
Regardless, that is also why I asked for clarity from Purism in this regard. Certainly if they had funded the backlog of refund requests they would reply to that effect, right?
I think it takes more time to handle a refound, as it takes to validate the Address, pick the finished phone in the Box print some Sticker and hand it over.
With the Money Issue, you have to do some Checks for the legal paperwork, and you have to verify much more before sending a transaction, then a packed with a phone inside.
If you send Money back you have to think about the currency, its value. About the Identity of the receptionist and much more. My favorite example is: What if someone transmit you 0.005 Bitcoin, and now will a refound of 0.005 Bitcoin 5 Years later whey (just hypothetical) its worth 100 times more…?
World Fiat-Money will have less fluctuations but you have to handle that question, and this rise a simple task to a complex Problem with much communication. When you then ask a Lawyer, and he need time to answer that question, as company you will freeze that process before you respond. I am just thinking about this issue, and i have not search and wrote down hard facts.
You asked not Purism, you asked a Developer in this Forum. He is not in the Position to answer that not technical question. Yes he answered with the “Staff Member We”, on a question about the how the parcels got done and leave the building and about a shrinking List of open Jobs. And you ask for some Statement an Issue way out of his business.
The FTC grants companies seven working days to handle a refund. The vast majority of companies out there don’t have a problem with that. And if you do have problems with that you’re basically admitting you’re incapable to do business by the rules and as a consequence your company will get fined.
Look on that thread. The time frames are much longer than you’re thinking. It shouldn’t take 6 months. Or two years …
No. I asked joao.azevado and he is a “Support Engineer”, not a “Developer”. He’s usually more directed toward hardware support, but he has frequently addressed issues on this forum about why their place in the queue was skipped. https://puri.sm/about/team/
