no wwan no mobile in settings

Hi….

Still struggling along. After I cleaned up messaging, I had no problems with the phone switching off randomly, not sure what else I did but it started working better.

Today (after I plugged it into ethernet/computer… updates I am assuming) it has completely “lost” all wwan. I can’t even pull up mobile under settings—well–only one time after searching for it.. all it says is no wwan–yes the button is on.

Am I missing anything? Oh. the switch is on, tried various versions of turning off, switching them on and off; and taking out the battery, etc.

Thanks! Sigh.

I had a problem with WWAN disappearing that was solved by unscrewing the WWAN cover plate on the back of the phone (only 3 screws) and there I discovered that the WWAN modem chip was actually falling apart and its metal shield had become loose.

It might be good to check for this in case it happened to you also. I do not know how common it is. Other people on the forum recently mentioned having the same issue, but in my specific case I had switched the modem multiple times when traveling to different countries, so it is possible that the plate dislodged during my activities rather than on its own.

But it still might not hurt to check.

[In my instance, removing the loose shield entirely seemed to cause the issue of WWAN disappearing even when the switch was on to be fixed, and then WWAN worked fine. I do not know what the shield was shielding me against, but others on the forum might know. Someone suggested if the shield falls off, it is best to order a new modem. This is reasonable advice.]

Other notes:

  • I use Byzantium typically. If you are on Crimson you might have a different problem than me. I don’t use “suspend” and instead I have a line of Librem 5 batteries on chargers at all times, and rotate through them.
  • When I removed and inserted different modems frequently to my device, there was a time I broke one of the connectors. Be careful and double check the Purism documentation
