Comparing two phones neither of which actually exists.
Which is fair, unlike comparing an existing phone with a non-existing one.
I make i mistake it is not M3 but something more powerfull M4F on Evergreen.
I make i mistake here, as FIR ship Twin GPUs like Turbo Acceleration!
Newer RK3568 will support this Fir features. At the moment Rockchip it only keeping Docs open for public, as NXP DO NOT want to following Freescale things like Docs open for public, starting on i.MX 9. = (
@JCS Please please convince Purism to release Fir-Socs as promised. Only you can advocate for us need
. Thanks of advance.
Remember FIR/Evergreen it depend for a HDR10 via LTPO_only Display,
Iâm not willing to give up DisplayPort Alt Mode.
No worries Fir may have DP Alt.
Also i want say that Librem 5 it is the first in the world TRULY Gnu Linux mobile phone plus INMORTAL.
Librem 5 is a magic device. Librem 5 is not PinephoneS or Furiphones or Jollaphones or the rest of devicesâŠ
Librem 5 is a dream device made by Purism.
Librem 5 itself is a Powerfull and Greatest device, however GTK is so TERRIBLE for embedded, making L5 looks bad.
GTK is made for MacBook in mind, and now for iPhone via Gnome. So the dream for Gnome is to see Phosh on iPhone. Gnome love Apple .
The i.MX 8M Plus doesnât have DP Alt Mode.
See @amosbattoâs earlier comment: Librem 5 Fir Batch - #51 by amosbatto
If Fir already exist, then i pretty sure that Libcamera already was working on supporting Fir ISP.
But looks like Fir needed to ship a better sensor camera supported in v4l2, i not sure which one.
One nicer features on Fir is: Extreme speed, Extreme energy efficiency, Extreme cold SoCs, Deepseek Ready, IA camera Ready.
Since the Librem 5 was made to be Autonomous by Software and Hardware, so i think Fir it is.
I WANT, I WISH A LIBREM 5 FIR. I need it urgently. Fir the Future!
TRACKED
I'm now working on further improvements to the Etnaviv driver
for the Vivante NPUs.
*rocket* is the driver for Librem 5 FIR NPU.
I wonder will be make Librem 5 Edition 2025? with more style design?
Make Librem 5 Fir to use 4 AAA (NiMH) battery, than block battery.
L5 is Gnu phone not Linux android phones.
So that maximum time on a single charge will be a tiny fraction of the already too short time?
Hold on, I need to dust this old joke (ââŠpfheeetâ): https://forums.puri.sm/uploads/default/original/2X/1/14296acc741cf94dc20ae2d948a6226712a8d28e.png (from: Size comparison to other phones - #41 by JR-Fi)
Using AAAs will drop potential max mAh and will make sure the device would be at least as thick as L5. But, on the other hand, current rechargeable batteries have 950mAh (as new, at least), in theory giving 3800mAh. So, 15-20% loss, depending on how good block batteries become. Thatâs relatively limited loss, if power consumption drops too, since potential for gains there is comparatively similar. So, no gains in use time, just more generic power source.
But letâs take it further. The space for battery would only need to be a millimeter or two wider to provide space for both battery options: a device specific block battery and for an alternative removable frame to use 4 AAAs. It wouldnât be a big change to current structure. The question is, how different the next one (if there is a next one) would be by size and internal structure design decisions.
Nope. Letâs use 1 V and 1000 mAh for NiMH AAA for ease of math. 1 NiMH AAA cell gives 1 Ah and 1 Wh. 4 such cells in series gives 4 Wh, but still only 1 Ah. A 4V 4AH lithium cell gives 16 Wh. (3.7 V and 4300 mAh might be more accurate, but simple and close enough to make the point. Ah rating == Wh rating only for 1V total battery voltage. Care is needed for multiple cells in series, especially when compared to single cell.)
Nope, just adding 950mAH x4 in parallel, not series. This is not a serious calculation anyway (see link in the original liked post). Just a thought about the physical size.
Sorry, that only makes a 4Wh 1 volt battery, which can run a Librem 5 for 0 seconds unless connected through a boost converter, which would give even less runtime than the same 4 AAAs connected in series. No matter how you hook them up, 4 AAA NiMH cells have only about one fourth the energy in the Purism battery for the Librem 5. This is just basic application of Ohmâs law.
The Fir version of the Librem 5 should be given the same technical specifications at its time of release, as the latest Samsung phone at that time. That means same amount of memory, same number of CPU cores, etc.. The size doesnât need to increase. But we all know that the Librem 5 heats up and struggles to keep up sometimes, especially with convergence. We also need to plan ahead for any implementation of an opensource AI, and for 5G.
I mean, if weâre just making random demands of the cosmic boogeyman, why donât I say it: the Librem 5 Fir batch should have 96 GB of RAM, 16 cores at 5.00 GHz in the processor, a battery that lasts 12 days, be the same size as the existing Librem 5, have perfect heat dissipation that never heats up, and have convergence where you can switch to any desktop display manager when docking. (So if you like KDE Plasma or MATE desktop or whatever else, you can switch to that one while docked instead of Phosh pretending to be GNOME at that point)
Since when has the Librem ever been in competition with Samsung for specs? Privacy, repair, and free software are the selling points. Iâm hoping my Librem 5 lasts at least 10 years.
Good luck.
